Aromas of pear, black fig and tropical fruit are backed up by herbal scents of fennel and toasted French oak. Flavors are dominated by the various fruit components with fresh, herbal characters in the background. The 2003 Semillon has a soft acidity and a rich lingering palate impression that create a wonderful compliment to fresh shellfish, seafood and poultry dishes of all sorts. Semillon has an outstanding capacity to age and the 2003 has the composition to go the distance.
The 2003 vintage year was a perfectly typical Washington State vintage: a warm summer followed by a cool but dry fall for longer ripening. The wines from 2003 are generally ripe and full with both good acidity and sugars at harvest.
The 2003 Semillon is composed entirely of grapes from the Caroway Vineyard located near the confluence of the Snake and Columbia rivers in Washington State. This is a cool site and escapes the severity of Washington State winters because of the proximity to the relative warmth of the rivers.
